Vodafone Ireland to Light 4G Network

Vodafone Ireland has announced that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network will go live in six cities and 23 towns across south-east and south-west Ireland next week, as the firm becomes the second domestic operator to inaugurate 4G following Eircom’s decision to introduce the service for Meteor Mobile and eMobile customers last month. Vodafone claims the new service will offer speeds up to ten times faster than those provided by its 3G network, adding that users who buy a 4G device and SIM will be able to experience peak download speeds of 74Mbps. Alongside the 4G announcement, the cellco says it is also upgrading its 3G service to improve data speeds, coverage and call quality for all customers. Vodafone’s 4G rollout is described as an ongoing programme that will take three to five years to complete.
