Vimpelcom’s Regional LTE Suppliers Unveiled
According to an unconfirmed report by Telecompaper, Russian mobile giant Vimpelcom has completed a tender for Long Term Evolution (LTE) equipment, handing contracts to a number of prominent vendors. Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) will supply Vimpelcom’s 4G equipment in Altai, Adygeya, Astrakhan and Kalmykia, while Chinese duo ZTE and Huawei scooped contracts in Kalingrad and Ingushetia, respectively.
Last month, in cooperation with Swedish telecoms vendor Ericsson, Vimpelcom rolled out its LTE network in downtown Moscow, with services initially concentrated within the central Sadovoye Ring of the city. LTE is expected to be available throughout the capital by the end of 2013.
