Ufone’s next generation platform is now available in Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Sialkot, passing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA’s) stipulation that 3G licensees must provide services in at least five cities within nine months. Ufone’s Norwegian-backed rival Telenor is expected to inaugurate its 3G network soon and is currently offering trial 3G services in Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
