Twitter Buys Spindle and Closes It
Location based information provider, Spindle has been bought by Twitter, and been shut-down as part of the ongoing trend by large firms to buy smaller companies for their technology, not their customer base.
The Spindle team, which is currently based in Boston, USA will be relocating and joining the Twitter team in San Francisco.
Financial terms were not disclosed and the announcement was made in a short blog post by Spindle.
Spindle developed a mobile app that collated information from a range of sources and then displayed it based on the users location — giving them an insight into what is happening locally.
In the blog post, the company said that “By joining forces with Twitter, we can do so much more to help you find interesting, timely, and useful information about what’s happening around you.”
The company also confirmed that it would be “sunsetting the Spindle service” with immediate effect.
