The total number of 3G subscribers in Turkey has surpassed 40 million, according to the latest data from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), he said, and the total number of phone subscribers has hit 67.2 million. Yıldırım said Turkey has retained its top place in Europe with 299 minutes of average monthly mobile phone conversation in the third quarter of the year. He also said there was an increase in calls from abroad for fixed-line telecommunication services, Hurriyet Daily News report.

Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim said that some of this can be attributed to the large number of calls to and from Turkey to foreign numbers abroad as expats and foreigners get in contact with family based in Turkey.
The city with the largest number of calls, as expected, was Istanbul. With Istanbul being Turkey’s business capital and one of the high tech cities in the world – millions of phone calls are made to and from Istanbul.
