Telstra Brings 4G Coverage Skiing Destinations
Telstra has extended the footprint of its LTE network to the snowfields in New South Wales and Victoria with a view to enabling skiers to benefit from the increased speeds it offers. Having switched on 4G connectivity in Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, Perisher and Thredbo, Telstra has said that coverage is available in most of the village areas in the aforementioned locations, as well as on some of the ski slopes. Looking ahead, two further locations – Jindabyne and Mount Buller – are expected to gain access to the network within the next two weeks.
Telstra’s Networks Executive Director Mike Wright said of the development: ‘We are committed to extending the reach of our 4G network and are on target to cover two-thirds of the Australian population by the end of this month and continue taking our service to even more places … Ski fields are one of those places where a large number of people congregate for specific periods of time each year in a really social atmosphere, so it made sense to deploy our 4G network there.’
