Teletalk to launch 3G in Dhaka on 29 July

Bangladeshi state-owned operator Teletalk will launch experimental 3G services in Dhaka City on 29 July. After a month of testing, the company will then officially launch 3G services in September, bdnews214.com reports citing Teletalk managing director Mujibur Rahman. The operator will provide 3G Sim cards to existing customers first and Teletalk is considering a lottery system or basing it on usage. Following the launch in Dhaka, Teletalk will launch 3G services in Chittagong as well and other big cities by the end of 2013. Rahman said he expects the company’s user base to double after July from the current 1.3 million. As the state-owned operator, Teletalk was given permission to launch 3G experimentally before other operators. The operator originally planned to launch 3G services in March but had to delay the launch for technical reasons. A 3G spectrum auction is planned for September this year.
