Telefonica Plans Mexican LTE Launch Next Month
Telefonica’s Mexican subsidiary has confirmed that it has nearly completed deploying its initial LTE network upgrade.
The service will launch next month, with coverage initially available in Polanco, Mexico City, Zapopan, Jalisco, San Pedro and Nuevo Leon.
Telefonica Mexico’s CEO, Juan Antonio Abellán made the announcement at a press conference and said that the company plans to spend US$235 million on the network upgrade by the end of next year.
The network will progressively expand coverage during 2013, but the company does not expect it to significantly take off until 2014.
