Telecom Egypt Expects 5m Mobile Users in First Year

Telecom Egypt (TE) expects to sign up around five million mobile subscribers in its first year of offering wireless services.

A conference at which the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) will formally announce plans to award a unified telecoms license to the fixed line incumbent – as well as to mobile operators Vodafone, Etisalat and MobiNil – will take place on 2 April. The conference had been expected to take place last week, but was postponed in line with a delay to the National Telecoms Regulatory Authority’s (NTRA’s) board of directors meeting which was made due to ‘urgent circumstances’.
