Tele2 Russia Tests LTE in 1,800 MHz Band
Tele2 Russia has started testing LTE services using its GSM frequencies in the 1,800 MHz band. The tests are conducted in cooperation with the Radio Scientific Research Institute in the Kaluga region. They should be completed on 24 June, after which the Institute will send the conclusions to the state radio frequencies commission SRFC. The spectrum regulator will then consider whether to authorize the launch of LTE services in the 1,800 MHz band.
Tele2 is using Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Multiradio base stations for the tests, as well as its Evolved Packet Core and Liquid Core architecture. This is Tele2’s second round of tests in the 1,800 MHz band. In March 2012 it achieved speeds of 75Mbps with LTE in the GSM band, without any negative impact on existing voice services. The operator does not hold any frequencies designated for LTE in Russia.
