Qualcomm & ESL Gaming Join Hands to Launch Snapdragon Pro Esports Series

As mobile gaming is getting more famous among the people across the globe, Qualcomm and ESL Gaming have signed a multi-year agreement for Snapdragon Pro Series.  Both companies have forged a partnership to come up with a mobile gaming league. According to the agreement, processor company Qualcomm and Esports tournament organizer ESL Gaming to provide accessible and high-quality mobile esports experiences for both new and veteran competitors.

The mobile gaming league will have three tiers of competition- Open, Challenge and Masters. The league will have around $2 million in prize money at stake. The Snapdragon Pro Series will have tournaments in North America, Europe, the Middle-East, China, North Africa and Asia-Pacific. It will launch a premier global, multi-genre mobile esports competition, culminating in an epic live Masters final event. The competitions will leverage premium-tier Snapdragon-powered devices using “Snapdragon Elite Gaming” optimizations.

Qualcomm is Shaping the Future of Connectivity, Computing & More: Amon

Cristiano R. Amon also announced that “alongside our partner HPE , we’ve developed the first fully optimized virtual DU solution for next-gen 5G deployments, which enables up to 60 percent lower operator TCO — a true game changer for operators.”

He further said that the company has expanded the broad Collab with Microsoft in order to deliver an end-to-end chip to cloud solution for deployments of private 5G enterprise networks. Combining of Microsoft Azure and Qualcomm’s 5G RAN solution will help enterprises quickly scale 5G and edge computing ambitions.

In collaboration with Fujitsu Global through docomo’s 5G OREC initiative, the company has also developed next-gen 5G mmWave integrated DU and RU for Open RAN 5G deployments.

Qualcomm, Vodafone, & Thales Introduces First iSIM Technology

The SIM card has progressed and after the eSIM, now the iSIM is changing the trends in the smartphones’ industry. Qualcomm, Vodafone and Thales jointly have demonstrated a smartphone with an integrated SIM (iSIM) successfully that is directly embedded in the mobile processor. Which eliminates the need for a dedicated slot.

The iSIM technology was demonstrated on a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, equipped with a Snapdragon 888 chip in Europe in Samsung’s R&D labs where it made use of Vodafone’s network. This new technology will not only kill the need for dedicated SIM card slots but also eSIMs. The greatest integration of SIM and processor integration bring better system integration, higher performance, and increased memory capacity.

What is iSIM Technology?

iSIM is implemented directly into the main processor of the phone which leads to better performance, and increased memory capacity, so freeing up more space inside the phone for other uses. Or we can say that,  iSIM is a software-based SIM that takes all the benefits of a standards-compliant eSIM and embeds them into the device’s permanent hardware array by combining the SIM with the system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture and cellular modem. It allows the industry of mobile phones to further integrate SIM’s functionalities into a phone without the need for the traditional physical SIM card.

The iSIM delivers benefits for both consumers and telecom operators. It paves the way for mobile services to be integrated into devices other than mobile phones. Which means that iSIM will make it easy for laptops, tablets, VR platforms, IoT devices, wearables, and others to make use of LTE or 5G services.

According to Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president of Qualcomm Europe: “iSIM solutions offer great opportunities to MNOs, free-up valuable space in devices for OEMs, and provide flexibility for device users to benefit from the full potential of 5G networks and experiences across a wide range of device categories. Finally, Xiaomi has unveiled its next-gen Xiaomi 12 smartphone series. In the series, the regular Xiaomi 12, and Xiaomi 12 Pro come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. These phones have triple rear cameras and support fast charging.

The Snapdragon 8 is built on a 4nm manufacturing process. It packs next-generation processing power, AI features, imaging prowess, and 5G connectivity. The new chip will be seen in several popular flagships of 2022. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC chipset packs a ton of improvements over last year, with Qualcomm promising massive gains in artificial intelligence and in graphics rendering. According to the chipset company, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 shows changes “far in excess” of what the company has shown previously year-on-year.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the first chip from Qualcomm that is using the latest Armv9 architecture from Arm. Specifically, the new eight-core Kryo CPU features a single prime core based on the Cortex-X2 at 3.0GHz, along with three performance cores based on Cortex-A710 at 2.5GHz, and a quartet of efficiency cores based on the Cortex-A510 design at 1.8GHz. Moreover, the new chip jumps to a 4nm process, from the 5nm process on which the Snapdragon 888 was built.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is offering up to 20 percent better performance and up to 30 percent more power efficiency over last year’s model.

The new Adreno GPU offers 30 percent faster graphics rendering, in addition to 25 percent better power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 888. This new chipset also offers a new GPU control panel for fine-tuning how games are running on the mobile phone. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth LE Audio (a first for Qualcomm), and the company’s Snapdragon Sound technology for enabling AptX Lossless wireless audio.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 features Qualcomm’s latest Hexagon processor, with its seventh-generation AI engine, which is four times faster than its predecessor and up to 1.7 times more power efficient.
