Ericsson launches 5G Plug-Ins to help the transition to 5G

Swedish networking giant Ericsson has launched a new range of network upgrade options called 5G Plug-Ins that are designed to help operators with their move to the next generation. There are five Plug-Ins in total, covering a broad range of emerging radio technologies. They are software-driven and thus designed to be easily deployed, although the method varies from one to another. The thinking behind them is to give operators an early opportunity to implement some of the technologies expected to form the eventual 5G standard well in advance of the anticipated commencement of 5G subscriptions in 2020.
