Swisscom Increases LTE Download Speed to 150Mbps
Switzerland’s Swisscom has increased the speed of its LTE network in high traffic areas t o a theoretical peak download speed of 150Mbps. The service had previously peaked at 100Mbps.
In the past six months, Swisscom has rolled out LTE to 170 locations in both rural and urban areas. That represents population coverage of 50%. Swisscom plans to extend 4G/LTE coverage to 70% of the population by the end of the year.
Although the network speed has been upgraded, compatible devices won’t go onto sale until next month. Around 400,000 customers are already using the current LTE service.
“We offer our customers the best network in Switzerland and will continue to do so in the future. To this end, we are substantially increasing our data transmission speed once again,” said Urs Schaeppi, Head of Swisscom Switzerland.
Swisscom also announced that the LTE network will also be available to PrePay customers from July.
