Sunrise Launches LTE Network

Sunrise, Switzerland’s second largest cellco by subscribers, has launched its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, making it the last of the nation’s trio of wireless providers to implement the platform.

The network, which offers theoretical maximum download speeds of up to 100Mbps, currently covers 22% of the population, although this will be extended to 50% by the end of October, a press release from the provider claimed. Sunrise has looked to differentiate itself from its rivals by offering its wireless data customers the highest download speed available a rather than limiting access speeds based on subscription. Sunrise 4G is available in 26 locations, including Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Lausanne and Basel, and will be also available to subscribers of virtual providers using Sunrise’s network city.
