South Korean 5G customers hit record monthly data usage in September

According to South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, 5G subscribers reached a record monthly data usage of 87,928 TB in September. South Korea reached 3.46 million 5G subscribers at 30 September. Monthly data usage thus reached around 25.97 GB per user in September.

Mobile data traffic for 5G subscribers stood at 18.26 GB in May and gradually increased to 24.08 GB in July and 24.64 GB in August. LTE network usage was almost flat month-on-month, at 8.31 GB in September, slightly down from 8.66 GB in August.

The country’s three mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus commercially launched 5G mobile networks on 3 April. South Korea reached 1.91 million 5G subscribers at 31 July. At end-July, SK Telecom attracted 45.4 percent of South Korea’s 5G user base, followed by KT with 30.8 percent and LG Uplus with 23.8 percent. SK Telecom recently announced it had passed the milestone of 1 million 5G subscribers in the first 140 days since the launch of its 5G network on 3 April. The company’s 5G subscribers account for more than 3.5 percent of SK Telecom’s total subscriber base of 28 million.
