PTA has already introduced Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) in order to identify the smuggled or unregistered phones and block them. PTA also provided relaxation in the deadline but it seems that 20 October is the final date of registration.

Anyone can check status of their IMEI by sending it in SMS to PTA provided code 8484.  PTA provided all the details and explanation on their website of all the messages which you will get by sending IMEI number.

DIRBS aims to make the import, use and growth of devices legal and transparent. Which will in return enhance government revenues and will improve the quality of mobile service to consumers. DIRBS will ensure use of legal devices on the mobile networks.
