SK Telecom Surpasses 10m LTE Subscriber Milestone
South Korea’s largest mobile network operator by subscribers, SK Telecom (SKT), has announced that it now has more than ten million Long Term Evolution (LTE) subscribers on its books, some 18 months after launching its 4G network commercially. Noting that its LTE access now account for 37% of its total subscriber base, SKT has confirmed that it expects its 4G customer numbers to reach 15 million by the end of 2013. The cellco has pointed to a number of factors in reaching the subscriber milestone, noting that having completed its LTE rollout in July 2012, 4G services are currently available to 99% of the population. Further, it claims to offer one of the widest selections of LTE-compatible devices in the country. SKT states that it currently has 33 LTE devices available to its customers, including 25 smartphones, five tablet PCs, two USB modems, and one LTE-capable camera.
