Samsung Confirms Smart Watch Launch for Next Week
Samsung has confirmed that it will be launching a smart watch next month just ahead of the German IFA consumer electronics show.
Although widely expected to be shown off there, Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business confirmed to the Korea Times that the smart watch would be shown off.
The smartwatch, named Galaxy Gear, will use a “non-flexible display” and would be a concept product.
“The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry,” Lee said.
She also dropped a strong warning that the company has been patenting wearable electronics and an indication that the tit-for-tat patent wars that have DE deviled the smartphone industry are not over yet.
She also said that the company has ruled out any bid for BlackBerry.
