Samsung Completes First Stage of MTS LTE Rollout in Pskov
Russian wireless giant MTS has announced that Samsung Electronics has completed the first stage of the carrier’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) deployment in the Pskov region. Testing is now underway, and by the end of 2013 theoretical downlink transmission speeds of up to 75Mbps will be available to subscribers in the following cities: Pskov, Velikie Luki, Ostrov, Nevel, Opochka, Novosokolniki and Pustoshka. The new network will operate in the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD)-LTE standard.
Earlier this month the two companies signed a three-year, USD55 million infrastructure contract, which will see the South Korean vendor roll out at least 3,000LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) in the north-west of the country. By 2014 MTS expects to offer LTE coverage of Saint Petersburg, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk and the Komi Republic. The cellco’s 4G networks currently cover Moscow, Tambov and the Udmurt Republic.
