Qualcomm, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport to Extend Long-Standing Partnership

Qualcommm Technologies and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport announced at Mobile World Congress a partnership to test high-speed wireless download of vehicle sensor information using 802.11ad Wi-Fi technology in the 60 GHz band. Qualcomm, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport to Extend Long-Standing Partnership

Now both the companies will lengthen their long-standing partnership by continuing the test and development. These tests will power connected car products. 802.11ac Wi-Fi, 802.11ad Wi-Fi, 5G New Radio (NR) and cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X). Qualcomm WiPower wireless charging is also on the track.

Additionally, both companies will now also work together on testing the wireless transfer of power using a WiPower interface. Evaluating various difficult-to-access interfaces on the vehicle, the teams plan to switch physical connectors with wireless power interfaces. It will help rapid pull to pieces and reassembly of vehicle parts during complex repair resulting from on track incidents.
