Qualcomm to develop 4G technology for Brazil
According to the President of company’s semiconductor division, Christiano Ramon, Qualcomm will develop technology for mobile terminals compatible with the different frequency ranges to be used for 4G in Brazil.
He said that Qualcomm will incorporate all the frequency bands that Brazil is considering for 4G – not only 700 MHz, but also 2.5 GHz and 450 MHz for rural broadband.
The frequency range selected by the National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) for 4G Internet in the country is 2.5 GHz.
Qualcomm and the Brasilia government signed in April a memorandum of understanding for setting up a R&D centre focused on tablets. The centre should be operational from Q1 2013.
