Orange Launches Uganda’s Third LTE Network

French-backed cellco Orange Uganda has launched its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, following  in the wake of MTN and Smile which launched their respective networks in April and June this year.

Cellco’s CTO Godfrey Kisekka as saying that the network covers ‘all major towns around the country’. Orange is yet to reveal a pricing structure for the new platform but noted that the cost of bandwidth was still high in landlocked Uganda, and attributed the high prices to charges from Kenyan telcos for routing traffic via overland cables to landing stations in Mombasa.
