Omnitel Opens 4G Network to Smartphones

Lithuanian mobile operator Omnitel has begun offering 4G LTE services for smartphone users in the capital Vilnius. The company’s 4G smartphone service supports voice as well as data, thanks to Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) technology, which allows voice calls to be delivered to and from LTE handsets via the 3G network. Last month the TeliaSonera-owned operator announced that its LTE network had been expanded to cover 40% of the population; by the end of the year Omnitel is aiming to increase this to 50%, while also hoping to provide 3G coverage to the whole of the country.
