Oi SA Picks NSN for Brazilian LTE Network Rollout

Brazilian owned carrier Oi SA, formed through the restructuring of Telemar Participacoes’ former operating divisions Brasil Telecom, Tele Norte Leste Participacoes, Coari Participacoes and Telemar Norte Leste, has selected Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) to supply the infrastructure for its fourth-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. Furthermore, under the deal, the vendor will also undertake an upgrade to the operator’s GSM and W-CDMA 3G networks across the Latin American country, it said.

The LTE contract will see NSN transform OI SA’s network infrastructure in several regions of Brazil to a SingleRAN system based on its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station for GSM, 3G and LTE. Additionally, the equipment maker will deploy its subscriber data management platform including its proprietary new technology home location register (NT-HLR) and one-NDS subscriber data management system for a centralized database repository independent of the application used. In a release, Oi SA said that the deal also includes network planning and optimization, systems integration and care services, including hardware and software services. No financial details were disclosed.
