NTT Docomo’s LTE Subscribers Passes the 15 Million Mark
Japanese mobile giant NTT DoCoMo has announced that subscribers to its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) service, marketed under the brand name ‘Xi’, surpassed the 15 million mark at end-July 2013. The company reported five million net additions to its subscriber base in the five months to end-July and said that it is well on its way to meet the previously set target of 25 million Xi LTE subscribers in FY2013.
NTT DoCoMo was the first company in Japan to commercially launch LTE services in December 2010. The telco signed up a total of one million 4G users by the end of the following year, although it took just twelve months to pass the ten million subscribers milestone in February 2013.
