Pakistani mobile operator Zong (CMPak) reports it has achieved its highest ever monthly revenue of PKR 5 billion for October this year. Zong saw a 23.2 percent month-on-month revenue growth in October. The operator also reports a 26.5 percent increase in recharge as compared to October 2015. Mobile data revenue jumped 200 percent in October 2016 compared to October 2015. Mobile operator Telenor Pakistan and tracking company TPL Trakker have teamed up to enhance digital map service TPL Maps. Telenor Pakistan and TPL Trakker plan to extend the Maps service to a wider audience beyond smartphones. TPL Maps will become part of the internet.org program for Telenor users. TPL said it will make lite version of TPL Maps accessible to the entire population.

Babilon-Mobile provides services over GSM 900/1800, UMTS, HSDPA and LTE technologies. Subscribers of the operator exceed 3.5 million. Kyrgyzstan mobile operator Nur Telecom, working under the O! brand, has launched a promotion aimed at subscribers buying a 4G WiFi Wingle router in its shops. Customers buying a package with the device for KGS 2,900, will get internet services free for one year. The offer will be available until 31 December.

Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies have executed network and device testing of data communications on Cat M1 with the MDM9206 modem, designed to support LTE Cat-M1 for IoT applications and services, using the 700 MHz band (Band 28). This commercial technical achievement was made possible through the interoperability testing of Qualcomm’s MDM9206 modem at Ericsson headquarters in Sweden and witnessed by executives from Telstra.Smartphone maker OnePlus is expected to release soon its next device, according to various reports. Qualcomm has already released a teaser on Twitter, showing its flagship Snapdragon 820 processor along with the OnePlus logo. Qualcomm said “something new from OnePlus is on the way”, and the device will run the 820 chip.

Du’s third-quarter profit falls 6.66%

Dubai-based telecom operator du’s third-quarter net profit fell 6.66 per cent to Dh457.2 million compared to Dh489.8 million a year ago, due to an 11.6 per cent increases in year-on-year royalty fees. But its revenue for the quarter grew 2.9 per cent to Dh3.14 billion, compared to Dh3.05 billion. Year to date, revenue is up by 1.1 per cent compared to the nine months to September 30, 2015.

Armenian operators pay less in taxes this yr

Armenian mobile operators and ISPs paid AMD 23.7 billion in taxes for the first nine months of this year, reports Arka.am. The figure dropped from AMD 29.4 billion the year earlier. Mobile operators Armentel, VivaCell and Ucom paid AMD 21.8 billion in taxes and AMD 1.8 billion in customs duties.

Mobilis 9-month revenue grows 22%, postpaid base up 43%

Algerian operator Mobilis posted revenue of DZD 90.6 billion for the first nine months of 2016, up by 22 percent year-on-year, while earnings before tax and amortisation rose by 70 percent. This improvement was supported by ongoing growth in postpaid subscriptions, which increased by 43 percent in nine months to reach over 1.4 million at end-September. Overall customers, mostly on prepaid tariffs, reached 17.5 million, up by 6 percent from September 2015.

Japan ended September with 159.5 million mobile customers, up from 157.5 million in June. Vodafone Germany LTE network reaches 500 Mbps

Vodafone Germany has upgraded its LTE network in Berlin and Dusseldorf to allow download speeds of up to half a gigabyte per second. Previously, the maximum speed possible over Vodafone’s LTE networks was 375 Mbps in some German cities. Vodafone demonstrated the new network capability using a Sony Xperia XZ. However, customers will need to install firmware updates to access the new high-speed network. These are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2017, according to a statement from Vodafone.

Singtel’s quarterly revenue up 2%, net profit down 6%

Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) saw its operating revenue grow 2 percent to SGD 4.28 billion in the quarter ended 30 September 2016. The figure excludes declines in Australian mobile termination rates. Singtel said its associates, especially Telkomsel and Airtel, performed strongly in the quarter. The Group’s customer base increased by 3 percent to 629 million subscribers. Net profit fell 6 percent to SGD 972 million due to exceptional gains recorded by Airtel in the comparative quarter.

Australian tablets fall by 17% for fifth straight quarter

The Australian tablet market experienced its fifth straight quarter of decline as the overall tablet market fell by 17.4 percent year-on-year in Q3, according to a report by IDC. As the market reaches saturation, the only beacon of hope comes from the rise in detachables. A total of 640,000 tablets were shipped into Australia in Q3. Slate tablets, which accounted for 75 percent of total shipments, fell by 27.9 percent year-on-year whilst the remaining shipments of detachables grew by 50 percent year-on-year.

Megafon plans changes to roaming rates

Russian mobile operator Megafon announced plans to change its roaming prices from 12 December. The cost of calls, SMS and mobile internet for subscribers not connected to special options will be announced later. The roaming option ‘Package 50 Minutes Europe and the CIS’ will be cheaper from 23 January 2017, falling from RUB 529 to RUB 495. In addition, internet traffic will decrease from RUB 19 to RUB 15 per MB under the ‘Vacation Online’ option.

Globalstar revenue lifts 8% to USD 1.9 mln in Q3

Square ups FY guidance on improved Q3

Mobile card reader and payment processing company Square said third quarter results came in above guidance and that it has raised its expectations for the full year. Net revenue lifted 32 percent year-on-year to USD 439 million, with adjusted revenue up 51 percent to USD 178 million. Square’s gross payment volume improved 39 percent to USD 13.2 billion with the net loss narrowing to USD 32 million from a loss the year earlier of 54 million and the adjusted EBITDA rising by USD 27 million to USD 12 million.

Oi leads drop in Brazil mobile lines drop in September

Brazil ended September with 251.02 million mobile telephony lines in operation, down by 0.42 percent or by 1.05 million lines compared to the previous month, according to data published by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). When compared to September 2015, the reduction was 9 percent. Of the total connections in September, 174.46 million were pre-paid (69.50% of the total) and 76.57 million post-paid (30.50%).
