Dear Readers,
A consultative meeting was held between Federal Minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhry Barjees Tahir and Minister of state for IT and telecom Anusha Rehman to discuss various aspects of policy directive for provision of Next Generation Mobile services to AJK & GB. Telenor Pakistan posted an operating profit of NOK 584 million in the fourth quarter of 2015, up from NOK 260 a year earlier. Telenor reported fourth-quarter revenues of NOK 33.5 billion and organic revenue growth of 2%. As per the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Pakistan is the fourth country in the world where average monthly cost of running a mobile phone is quite reasonable as compared to rest of the world, regardless of being the eighth highest taxation telecom sector in the world. The PTCL Smart TV App is the first of its kind and has been recognized for integrating live TV with such handheld devices as mobile phones, laptops and tablets. Nomination of the Smart TV App at this level is an indication of the progress achieved by PTCL in internet and multimedia. Ufone has launched first time in Pakistan, Ufone U Watch, to give parents a complete piece of mind. It looks like a normal, trendy, digital watch. Using real-time tracking technology it helps you keep an eye on your child by connecting directly to the U Watch app on your smartphone.

Armenian mobile operator VivaCell, a subsidiary of the Russian mobile operator MTS, has introduced a promotion for new subscribers of its ‘Startphone’ tariff, offering the iPhone 6s smartphone for AMD 1. Mobile operator Sky Mobile, working under the Beeline Kyrgyzstan brand, has introduced its new ‘Earn With Beeline’ option. Beeline, a largest mobile communication operator in Uzbekistan, launched a programme of external education “Third Generation” within the global initiative of VimpelCom Make Your Mark in Uzbekistan. Mobile operator Megafon Tajikistan has upgraded its 3G network in the Sogd region. Data speeds have been doubled in the Pendzhakent and Dzhabor-Rasulov municipalities, with capacity now available of up to 21 Mbps. Broadband services from the operator are currently accessible in all municipal centres across the region. Mobile operator MTS Turkmenistan has launched a new ‘Help’ service enabling subscribers to perform outgoing on-net calls even with an empty handset balance. The service is accessible for subscribers of all retail tariffs.

Altel increases prices on data bundle

Kazakhstan mobile operator Altel said it plans to modifiy its ‘Super Smart’, ‘Super Smart+’ and ‘Altel Web Unlim LTE’ broadband tariffs from 1 April. The monthly subscription rate will be raised from KZT 990 to KZT 1,190 under the Super Smart and Super Smart+ tariffs and a 30 GB monthly internet traffic bundle will be introduced instead of unlimited services.
