ZTE Selects Broadcom’s Small Cell -Baseband Processors

Broadcom has announced that ZTE has selected its small cell baseband processor family to integrate into its 3G small cell residential access points. As mobile operators struggle to keep pace with the growing data demands of residential customers, small cell networks provide a way to help move data off of wireless networks. Broadcom is able to help ZTE speed up small cell deployment by integrating its BCM616xx Series into the ZTE ZXSDR BS8001 U2100 Access Point. This integration shortens a mobile operator’s small cell network deployment time and reduces integration and installation costs. The ZTE solution includes small AP, small cell access gateway and security server, and a small cell management system.

Ericsson Urges 4G Adoption in Jordan

Ericsson has called for Jordan’s cellcos to introduce 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services to satisfy the growing demand for data consumption. The Jordan Times quotes Tarek Saadi, the head of Ericsson’s Middle East operations as saying that: ‘It is the right time for introducing these services in Jordan, taking into accounts the rise in internet traffic.’ Plans to auction additional frequencies for 4G services and to allow the entry of a fourth wireless provider into the market have not been well received by the nation’s incumbents. The CEO of Orange Jordan dismissed the technology and rival operator Umniah has trialed the technology but echoed the sentiment of Orange.

Siemens Said To Seek Buyer for NSN

According to the latest updates Siemens has approached TPG and Blackstone Group to determine whether they are interested in buying out NSN, in which Siemens has 50% stakes. Nokia on the other hand is not interested in selling rather the company has been working on a deal to buy out Siemens stake and take full control of NSN, for which Nokia is planning to seek funds from a Finnish sovereign wealth fund Solidium, although if the EU decides this amounts to state aid, it may raise regulatory roadblocks. Another possibility is an IPO, which might make more financial sense for Nokia – analysts believe an IPO could value NSN at up to €7.5 billion ($10 billion), whereas they expect a takeover to be worth between €4 billion and €5 billion.
