PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited) and Zong (CMPak) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a ceremony held at PTCL Headquarters. Zong Signs MoU With PTCL For Sharing Telecommunication Services. The MoU was signed by Mr. Walid Irshaid, President & CEO PTCL and Mr. Liu Dianfeng, CEO Zong. Pakistani operator Warid Telecom has launched a new SIM Lagao offer. Prepaid customers who have not used their Warid SIM in the last 30 days or more will be able to avail, upon reactivation, 3,000 Warid minutes, 3,000 SMS and 3 GB of LTE internet which will be valid for 15 days. According to the report Apple iPhone 6s and 6s plus coming to Pakistan on 13th November 2015 with its official distributor Advance Telecom. Huawei has officially launched Honor 7, it is undoubtedly a perfect fall gift from Huawei for its customers in Pakistan. The latest version of Google’s smartphone operating system – comes with support for Urdu language. This is an important breakthrough for Pakistan’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.
Karabakh Telecom, working in Mountainous Karabakh republic, has introduced special packages for subscribers buying handsets from Huawei. Kyrgyzstan mobile operator Megacom announced that its subscriber base grew by 5 percent year-on-year this year to over 3 million. Azerbaijan mobile operator Azercell has launched a seasonal promotion for postpaid subscribers. Largest communications operator of Uzbekistan, Beeline, expanded coverage and capacity of 3G network in Fergana region. Mobile operator MTS Turkmenistan plans to stop offering its Smartphone tariff from 1 January. Qualcomm is planning to release a new device that will make drones smarter and cheaper. The GPU is usually thought of as something that speeds up 3D graphics operations, but many of the same computations are useful in computer vision tasks. Qualcomm Inc has decided not to separate its chip making and technology licensing businesses. The company also raised its forecast for earnings per share for the current quarter, which it said would be at or modestly above the high end of the previous forecast ranges.

Beeline expands network coverage in Fergana

Largest communications operator of Uzbekistan, Beeline, expanded coverage and capacity of 3G network in Fergana region. New 3G base stations are embedded in commercial operation on the streets of Yangi Soy and Kholmatova. It is worth to mention that 70 base stations of 3G technologies were launched recently in Fergana region.

Megacom subscriber base rises 5% this year

Kyrgyzstan mobile operator Megacom announced that its subscriber base grew by 5 percent year-on-year this year to over 3 million. The operator paid KGS 2.125 billion in taxes this year, up by over 150 percent by comparison to 2010. Company revenues totaled KGS 6.352 billion in January-October. MTS Turkmenistan to shut down Smartphone tariff

Mobile operator MTS Turkmenistan plans to stop offering its Smartphone tariff from 1 January. Subscribers using the tariff will be switched to the Smart S tariff by default. Unused internet traffic will not be transferred to the new tariff.

Bakcell expands services in Baku Metro

Azerbaijan mobile operator Bakcell currently owns 127 GSM and 3G base stations in the Baku Metro, reports Trend. Around 90 percent of tunnels are covered with a GSM network, with 3G coverage totaling 80 percent. The operator claims it leads in terms of coverage among Azerbaijan operators in the Baku Metropolitan area. Bakcell’s network covers over 99 percent of the country’s population.

Azercell launches iPhone promo for postpaid

Azerbaijan mobile operator Azercell has launched a seasonal promotion for postpaid subscribers. All existing postpaid subscribers, as well as postpaid subscribers who port their numbers to the Azercell network can get the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at reduced prices when subscribing to the Hedsiz tariff. The offer is valid with the iPhone 6 16 GB, iPhone 6 64 GB and iPhone 6 Plus 64 GB. Following the purchase, the subscriber will need to pay a monthly subscription fee of AZN 99, AZN 109 or AZN 119 respectively for 18 months.

VivaCell offers Alcatel smartphones for AMD 1

Armenian mobile operator VivaCell introduced a promotion of smartphones from Alcatel. Customers buying the Alcatel One Touch Pop 2 (5), Alcatel One Touch Pop 2 (4.5 LTE), Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 S, Alcatel One Touch Pop C5 or Alcatel One Touch Pop S 3 smartphones are offered a discount on the monthly subscription to the Startphone tariff from the operator for 24 months. The price is reduced from AMD 6,500 to AMD 4,500. The smartphones cost AMD 1 under the offer.

Kyrgyzstan mobile operator Megacom has expanded the coverage of its 3.75G network. The network was upgraded in the Talas and Issyk-Kul regions, as well as in the city of Bishkek and covered 75 additional villages across the country. Nar starts seasonal roaming promo

Azerbaijan mobile operator Nar has introduced a seasonal roaming promotion for its subscribers. A 50 percent discount has been offered for mobile internet services when roaming in CIS-states, a 40 percent discount for roaming in European states, and a 10 percent discount for calls to Azerbaijan. The promotion is valid until 15 January.

Vodacom South Africa expands Travel Saver offer

Vodacom South Africa said its Contract customers can now enjoy savings on roaming rates when they travel to 180 countries, including popular holiday destinations such as the US, UK, France, Spain, Brazil, Hong Kong, China, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya. The newly reduced rates are effective from 9 December. This follows Vodacom’s move to increase the Vodacom Travel Saver footprint from 27 countries to 180 destinations.

Vodacom modifies Neo tel acquisition deal

South African telecoms operator Vodacom has reached an agreement on a restructured transaction in regards to its ZAR7 billion (USD566 million) acquisition of domestic rival Neotel, following a request to postpone the hearings in front of the country’s Competition Tribunal in November. According to the revised deal, Vodacom South Africa will acquire inter alia the majority of Neotel’s assets related to its fixed-line business, excluding its licences (spectrum, electronics communications network [ECN] and electronics communications network services [ECNS]).

UAE-based telecom group Etisalat has launched its new data plans for prepaid customers, offering a choice of three value-packed plans based on speed of data access.
As the UAE’s first-of-its-kind mobile data offering, the new Nonstop Daily Plans are priced according to the speed of choice and not as per the amount of data used, similar to Etisalat’s home Internet plans. It gives Etisalat Wasel prepaid customers the convenience of all-day connectivity without having to worry about a limit on data consumption or accidental out of bundle charges.

Court keeps freeze on Zain Iraq’s $187m, firm to appeal

An Iraqi court has rejected a request by Zain Iraq to lift a freeze on $187 million it holds in cash at local bank accounts, the telecom operator’s parent firm Zain said on Wednesday.

Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip (SoC), the latest addition to the company’s 800-series of chipsets. The company announced that smartphones powered by Snapdragon 820 can only be expected to arrive in the “first half of next year”. Samsung to release new budget smartphone this month

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. plans to release a new budget smartphone this month in Korea, following the rising demand for cheaper handsets. The Galaxy J7, first released in China and India in June, comes with a 5.5-inch display, 3,000 mAh detachable battery and a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

Ericsson’s MEA president wins Forbes honor

Rafiah Ibrahim, Ericsson’s president for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region was recognized by Forbes Middle East among the top executives in the region ranking 15th on the list of 100 executives. Rafiah Ibrahim was honored during the magazine’s Global Meets Local Awards, held last night in Dubai, UAE, said a statement.
