Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr. Syed Ismail Shah has been elected as Vice President of General Assembly of Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) for three years. Mobilink has signed a partnership agreement with Twitter, to accelerate internet adoption in Pakistan and enable users to share ideas and information instantly. Minister of State for Information Technology Ms. Anusha Rahman have meeting with Mr. Philip Barton, British High Commissioner to Pakistan and discussed areas of mutual interest and cooperation between the two countries, especially in IT & Telecom sector. Azerbaijani software developer the Dilmanc company is going to introduce an analogue of Apple’s personal assistant Siri, which makes it possible to control smartphone with voice commands. Tcell has introduced to its subscribers a package with the ZTE S522 handset. Armentel has launched its new Non-Stop service that enables customers to access a 30 MB bundle for day.

Mobilink Expands 3G Network Coverage to 16 Cities

Pakistani mobile operator Mobilink has expanded its 3G services to Sheikhupura, a district of Punjab province of Pakistan. Mobilink customers in Sheikhupura can now access the operator’s 3G services on a free trial base until the commercial launch. Mobilink has also expanded its 3G network to the cities of Sargodha, Gujrat and Sahiwal. The Mobilink 3G network now covers 16 cities of Pakistan.

Kyrgyzstan Operators Expand Networks in Remote Areas

Eighty agglomerations in Kyrgyzstan will get their first mobile services by the end of the year, mentioned by Chyngyz Bektashev, the director of the State Communications Agency. There were still 128 agglomerations without mobile service at the beginning of the year. The agency carried out negotiations on the coverage with mobile operators Beeline Kyrgyzstan, Megacom and O!, and the uncovered agglomerations were distributed between the operators.

EVO to Launch 4G LTE TDD Network in Uzbekistan

Operator of broadband wireless Internet Super iMAX (EVO brand) is planning to launch the fourth generation network 4G LTE TDD in Uzbekistan in 2015. KT Corporation (South Korea), one of founders of Super iMAX, is an investor of the project. The volume of investments will make up US$10 million.

Kyrgyzstan Looks to Introduce MNP Services in 2016

SuperiMax to Launch LTE TDD

Tcell Introduces Package with ZTE Handset

Tajikistan mobile operator Tcell has introduced to its subscribers a package with the ZTE S522 handset. The package includes 600 minutes of on-net calls, 600 on-net SMSs and 600 MB for six months. The handset features a 0.3 megapixel camera, FM radio, and is attached to the Tcell network. The package totals TJS 130, with TJS 1 from the amount transferred to the balance.

Pakistani mobile operator Mobilink has signed a partnership agreement with Twitter, to accelerate internet adoption in Pakistan and enable users to share ideas and information instantly. Under the terms of the deal, Mobilink customers will be able to use the Twitter’s mobile services, including Twitter SMS and Twitter Access. Mobilink users will not incur any data charges on Twitter usage for a limited time period.

Altel Stops 3G Services in 4 Cities

Kazakhstan operator Altel, a subsidiary of national operator Kazakhtelecom, has stopped providing 3G services under the Jet sub-brand in the cities of Satpayev, Zhanaozen, Kentau and Turkestan. Services were stopped after the launch of a GSM/UMTS/LTE network there. Subscribers can replace their 3G modems with LTE modems for a KZT 550 promotional rate.

Megafon Tajikistan Expands Network in Mountainous Badakhshan

Mobile operator Megafon Tajikistan has deployed two new base stations in the Rushan municipality in the Mountainous Badakhshan region, with one of the base stations getting its power supply from a diesel generator. Beeline Kyrgyzstan Revenues Up By 2.6% in Q3

Mobile operator Sky Mobile, working under the Beeline Kyrgyzstan brand, said third quarter revenues grew by 2.6 percent year-on-year to KGS 2.666 billion. EBITDA jumped by 6.4 percent, while the EBITDA margin amounted to 52.9 percent. Revenues from data services soared 50 percent to KGS 266 million. The operator’s active subscriber base totaled 2.703 million at the end of September, up by 7 percent year-on-year. The number of mobile internet services users grew by 11 percent.

Orange Armenia Launches 42Mbps Myfi Cuts Cost Of H+ Mobile Internet Services

Mobile operator Orange Armenia has launched a new MyFi high speed internet service giving subscribers to its mobile broadband ‘H+’ service the opportunity to create personal Wi-Fi zones anywhere where its Orange network is present. The carrier said that subscribers to its Internet Now 8000 tariff plan would be able to acquire the maximum 42Mbps MyFi service for AMD8,000 (USD19.3) per month (one-year contract), or AMD4,000 p/m over a 24-month contract.

Takom Resumes Reverse-Charge Calls

Mobile operator Takom, working under the Beeline Tajikistan brand, has resumed its reverse-charge call service for prepaid subscribers. The service enables customers to initiate on-net calls even when they have no credit. The service is free for the subscriber initiating the call. The recipient must choose to accept the call, and then is charged TJS 0.15 per minute. The service isn’t accessible outside the coverage of the Beeline Tajikistan network nor when using roaming services.

Takom Appoints New CEO

Mobile operator Takom, working under the Beeline Tajikistan brand, has appointed Konstantin Kolesov the new CEO of the company. Kolesov currently works as director for corporate strategy at the mobile operator Kar-Tel, working under the Beeline Kazakshtan brand. Kolesov will replace Milos Surla in the new position from 8 December.

Kcell Nominates New Executive Director

Kazakhstan mobile operator Kcell, controlled by the TeliaSonera group, has nominated Arti Ots the new executive director of the company. Ots will start after clearance from the state, a final agreement from Ots and approval by the management board of the company. Ots currently works as vice-president for commercial and business development at TeliaSonera Eurasia. He was previously the CEO at Estonian operator Elion.

Orange Armenia Starts iPhone 6, 6 Plus Sales

MTS and Uzbekistan Discontinue International Arbitration

Tele2 to Launch Services on its Own Mobile Network in January

Dutch telecoms operator Tele2 NL is to begin offering commercial services over its own mobile network in January 2015 according to a statement from the provider’s business-to-business director Fedor Hoevenaars at a recent telecoms conference. Tele2’s under-deployment 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network reached coverage of between 50% and 60% of the country in August 2014 while Tele2 disclosed in its Q3 2014 report that ‘construction of new [4G] sites is going according to plan … an internal testing programme has started, with a number of employees testing all different aspects of the 4G network … During the quarter, Samsung also validated Tele2’s 4G network, enabling all their LTE devices to use the network.’

Vodafone Launches LTE-A in Melbourne

Vodafone Australia has announced the commercial launch of its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in Melbourne, with 678 new ‘4G+’ sites switched on in Victoria initially, and a further 71 to be activated over the next six weeks. Spark, Huawei Ink MoU to Boost 3G, 4G

Six firms in running for 4G spectrum

Poland’s Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) has announced that six companies have submitted preliminary bids in its auction of 4G-capable spectrum in the 800MHz and 2600MHz bands.
