The Pakistani Ministry of Information Technology (MoITT) plans to release the first Draft of Telecommunications Policy. An international consultant hired to “review and integrate current telecoms policies” briefed the ministry on findings and policy suggestions about various aspects of telecommunication sector. Mobilink has commercially launched its 3G services, becoming the last of the four license winners to activate its networks. Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited has introduced a service dubbed ‘Charji Evo’. The wireless broadband service provides uninterrupted connectivity at speeds of up to 36 Mbps. Zouhair A. Khaliq has joined the GSM Association as Managing Director, GSMA Mobile for Development. Jeffrey Hedberg has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Mobilink Pakistan.

Beeline (Unitel LLC and Buzton JV) expanded a capacity and a coverage of GSM and 3G network on the territory of Andijan region. Vimpelcom, working under the Beeline brand, has launched its LTE network in the Samara region. VivaCell-MTS subscribers travelling to Russia can benefit from data roaming services in 4G/LTE network. A new data centre has launched in the city of Oskemen, in Eastern Kazakhstan, to be used for e-government services. Samsung has presented the Galaxy Tab S tablet in Kazakhstan. Megafon Tajikistan has upgraded its solar energy-powered base station situated at 1,600 m above the sea level in the Mogiyen agglomeration, in the Pendzhikent municipality.

Qualcomm has reported a record quarter in its financial results, with revenues up by nearly 10 percent, and net profit jumping by 42 percent. Qualcomm has taken a step towards the vision of demonstrating how technology innovations can help some of the challenges the education sector faces, by completing the acquisition of EmpoweredU, a pioneer in the development of an intuitive, mobile-centric cloud-based learning environment that is both device and operating system agnostic. Qualcomm and Turkcell, Ericsson have demonstrated the world’s first live 3 Carrier High Speed Downlink Packet Access (3C HSDPA) on a commercial network.

Pakistan to release first telecoms policy draft in July

The Pakistani Ministry of Information Technology (MoITT) plans to release the first Draft of Telecommunications Policy. An international consultant hired to “review and integrate current telecoms policies” briefed the ministry on findings and policy suggestions about various aspects of telecommunication sector. The policy seeks to enable and encourage local manufacturing, content and application development. The draft includes provisions related to interconnection, VoIP, licensing framework, broadband services and public Wi-Fi.

Zouhair Khaliq now Managing Director, GSMA Mobile for Development

Well known telecoms specialist Zouhair A. Khaliq, who served and played a pivotal role in the development and growth of the Pakistan telecom sector, has joined the GSM Association as Managing Director, GSMA Mobile for Development. He will be based in London, UK.

Mobilink Launches 3G Services

Mobilink has commercially launched its 3G services, becoming the last of the four licence winners to activate its networks. The cellco’s data services are available in areas of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpundi, Multan, Faisalabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Hyderabad. Mobilink’s 3G offerings are currently limited to pre-paid plans, ranging from a free package that grants the user free unlimited access to Facebook, to its ‘Super Monthly Bundle’, which costs PKR600 (USD6.0) for 4GB of data, with unlimited free usage at 2G speeds after the cap is reached.

Beeline Expands its Communication Network in Andijan

Largest communication operator Beeline (Unitel LLC and Buzton JV) expanded a capacity and a coverage of GSM and 3G network on the territory of Andijan region. New base stations have been introduced in Andijan, Markhamat and Asaka, which helped improved the quality of the signal and mobile Internet.

Beeline Launches LTE Network in Samara

Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom, working under the Beeline brand, has launched its LTE network in the Samara region. Services are now accessible in the city of Samara and surrounding agglomerations, including Volzhskiy, Kryazh, Mekhzavod, Upravlencheskiy, Petra-Dubrava and Stroykeramika. The operator’s LTE network also covers the railawy station, the Volga River port, as well as the Kurumoch airport, using the 2,600 MHz band. The network provides speeds of up to 70 Mbps, with average speed at 40-50 Mbps. The operator has opted to cover the most densely populated areas in Samara.

4G Data Roaming Available for VivaCell-MTS Subscribers in MTS-Russia Network

From now on VivaCell-MTS subscribers travelling to Russia can benefit from data roaming services in 4G/LTE network. To take advantage of 4G/LTE network opportunities, subscribers need to activate roaming before leaving Armenia and connect to MTS-Russia network while staying in Russia. The 4G/LTE data transfer services are provided under the same conditions as in case of 2G/3G networks, at 49 AMD/MB.

Uzbektelecom Denies Reports on Hacking of its Database

Uzbektelecom joint stock company dismissed reports of some mass media outlets that citizen of Uzbekistan Sergey Klimov hacked database of the company. The company said that the information is not correct as Sergey Klimov did not receive access to database of Uzbektelecom. The company said that he purchased pirate CD with database of telephone numbers of Tashkent city for 2002-2003 in one of Tashkent markets and placed it to his website.

MTS to Commission its Network for Commercial Use by 1 December

Mobile TeleSystems OJSC, the leading telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, will launch its mobile communication network into commercial use in Uzbekistan by 1 December 2014. The Government of Uzbekistan approved an order of return of MTS to mobile communication market of Uzbekistan. The signed agreement provides for establishment of a joint venture with MTS holding a 50.01% in the charter capital of the Operator while the remaining 49.99% will belong to a state-owned unitary enterprise established and managed by the State committee for communications, development of information systems and telecommunications technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Center for Radio Communication, Broadcasting and Television (CRBT).

CAMEL-Roaming Beeline Expands in India and Thailand

Largest communication operator Beeline (Unitel LLC and Buzton JV) expanded geography of international voice roaming. CAMEL-roaming is now available in the partner network of Dtac and True Move (Real Future) in Thailand and Reliance in India. Beeline subscribers can use CAMEL roaming. The service allows to use Beeline communication services at any positive balance, in other words without guarantee fee of US$50 and till the balance of subscriber reaches US$0.

New e-govt Data Centre Lauches in Eastern Kazakhstan

A new data centre has launched in the city of Oskemen, in Eastern Kazakhstan, to be used for e-government services, reports Profit.kz. Similar data centres are planned for Aktau, Atyrau, Aktobe, Shymkent, Taldykorgan and Kokshetau by the end of the year. The data centres will be opened in all regional centres across the country after that.

Samsung to Launch Galaxy Tab S in Kazakhstan

Samsung has presented the Galaxy Tab S tablet in Kazakhstan. The device features a SuperAmoled WQXGA screen. Several versions of the tablet will become available from 25 July. Prices will start at KZT 95,000, the price of the Wi-Fi only version.

Ucell’s Net Sales Exceed US$246.163m in 1H

Net sales of mobile communication operator Ucell, a subsidiary of TeliaSoner in Uzbekistan, grew by 13.6% year-on-year to 1.686 billion Sweden kronor (over US$246.163 million) in the first half of 2014. At the same time, net sales of the operator in the second quarter of 2014 was 899 million Sweden kronor (over US$131.259 million), which rose by 14.9% year-on-year.

Qualcomm Reports Record Quarterly Results

Qualcomm has reported a record quarter in its financial results, with revenues up by nearly 10 percent, and net profit jumping by 42 percent. Revenues came in at USD6.8 billion for the three months to the end of June, while net profit was up by 42% at USD2.24 billion. In terms of chip shipments, these came in at 225 million units, a rise of 31 percent over the previous year.

Megafon Tajikistan Upgrades Network in Mountainous Locations

Mobile operator Megafon Tajikistan has upgraded its solar energy-powered base station situated at 1,600 m above the sea level in the Mogiyen agglomeration, in the Pendzhikent municipality. The number of subscribers able to use services via the base station has been raised by 25 percent. The operator has announced that traffic volume over its 40 GSM and 3G base stations in resort locations grew 12-fold times during the summer months.

Kar-Tel cuts rate of calls to Uzbekistan

Kar-Tel, working under the Beeline Kazakhstan brand, has reduced the rate of calls to Uzbekistan under its ‘Whole Uzbekistan’ service. MTS to Resume Activities in Uzbekistan

Russian mobile operator MTS has signed a settlement agreement with the Uzbekistan government, allowing MTS to resume its services in Uzbekistan. The services will be provided via a joint venture in which the state owns a stake. MTS will hold 50.01 percent, and the state will hold 49.99 percent. The services will be provided on the basis of the infrastructure of the company Uzundrobita, the former subsidiary of MTS in Uzbekistan prior to its eviction in 2012 for alleged regulatory violations. The Uzbekistan government will provide the operator with GSM, 3G and LTE licences, and the necessary spectrum, telephone numbers and permits.

Users can Register to Single State Interactive Services Portal with Banking Card

In addition to existing registration methods, registering via UZCARD EMV bank cards has been launched at the Single state interactive services portal. This method is performed by associating user’s card with his personal cabinet on the Single portal. From now on, registering on the Single portal can be performed using UZCARD EMV bank card information (online card), with activated SMS-Informing service. This method will allow making payments directly from the user’s cabinet on the Single portal in the future, without reentering the bank card information.

Bakcell has joined ExpressPay. The purpose of this system is to make the payments made through ExpressPay payment system even faster and easier for the citizens. This payment system will enable the users to pay the mobile communication fees, utility fees, internet providers fees faster and easier as well as avail of wire transfer service, purchase of cinema and theatre tickets and other numerous services. CIS States to Sign Agreement on Cutting Roaming Price

The member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) are planning to sign agreement on principles of conducting inter-operator calculations at providing international communication services, including roaming. The implementation of the agreement will decrease the cost of communication in roaming in the CIS states. The agreement will signed either at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015.

Tele2 Kazakhstan Posts Positive EBITDA in Q2

The mobile operator Tele2 Kazakshtan amounted to 213,000 in the second quarter, helped by a new commission structure. Service revenue grew by 1 percent year-on-year to SEK 225 million, hurt by devaluation of the local currency and lower interconnect levels. EBITDA amounted to SEK 3 million, up from the negative SEK 52 million in the year-earlier period. The total subscriber base reached 2.984 million. The company continued to invest in its mobile network in order to improve quality perception in the market.

President backs 3G, 4G licensing initiative

The President of Ukraine, Petr Poroshenko has firmly backed plans to push through the long-delayed awards of 3G/4G mobile network operating licenses ‘to help the economy’. Ukraine’s National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR or NKRZI) issued a decision to finalize the tender conditions for 3G/4G operating licenses by the end of the month. Competitive 3G licensing has been held up for years in Ukraine by the failure to agree terms on releasing 2100MHz UMTS spectrum from military usage, leaving Ukrtelecom (TriMob) as the soleUMTS licensee, whilst NCCIR plans to convert existing 900MHz and 1800MHz GSM mobile frequency licenses to technology-neutral concessions – thereby allowing 3G UMTS-900 and 4G LTE-1800 service launches – have also been delayed.

Arcep Instructs SFR, Free to Revise 4G Coverage Maps

France’s telecoms watchdog, the Autorite de Regulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes (Arcep), has announced that following its recent quality of service (QoS) survey, which assessed the performance of the four domestic cellcos – Orange, Bouygues Telecom, SFR and Free Mobile – in the mobile retail market, it has instructed SFR and Free Mobile to improve their respective 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage maps. Meanwhile, Arcep pointed out that in terms of 2G and 3G coverage, all operators have met the benchmarks and provide reliable coverage information.

Global Smartphone Market to Grow 24% in 2014 – MIC

The global mobile phone market is expected to grow 3.0 percent this year to around 1.88 billion units, according to Taiwan’s Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute. Smartphones will account for around 65 percent of the market, growing by an estimated 23.6 percent to 1.22 billion units. MIC predicts the global smartphone market will continue to grow in double digits, to 1.88 billion units in 2018, driven by demand in emerging markets. In North America and Western Europe, the market growth is expected to slow to around 7 percent this year, to 300.2 million smartphones sold. The share of smartphones sold in developed countries will fall to 24.6 percent in 2014 from 28.4 percent in 2013 and dip further to 20.1 percent in 2018, MIC estimates.

mDiabetes Program: Mobile Technologies are Catalysts for Development in Senegal

Alcatel-Lucent attended the ceremony for launching the m-Ramadan campaign, which originated from the mDiabetes program, in Dakar on June 16, 2014. Alcatel-Lucent is participating in the “mDiabetes” program launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as part of the “Be Healthy, Be Mobile” initiative. The mDiabetes project in Senegal is one of the larger mHealth projects Alcatel-Lucent is involved in. It aims at combating diabetes with an ambitious and innovative campaign based on mobile technology, designed to improve prevention by raising awareness among diabetic patients as well as training health professionals. SMS messages as well as applications will be used as tools in the campaign.

Azercell’s Shareholder TeliaSonera Acquires Tele2’s Norwegian Operations

Azercell’s main shareholder European communication giant TeliaSonera is acquiring Tele2’s operations in Norway. The company has also committed itself to 98 percent population coverage for 4G by 2016, two years ahead of its obligations. Tele2 operates under the brand names Tele2, One-Call, My Call and Network Norway. The number of mobile subscriptions was 1,133,000 and the number of fixed subscriptions was 60,000 at the end of the first quarter. The transaction will increase TeliaSonera’s mobile market share in Norway to approximately 40 percent from 23 percent while the mobile subscription base will increase to 2.7 million from 1.6 million.

T-Mobile Extends LTE Network to 75% of Capital

T-Mobile’s Czech unit has announced that its 4G LTE network now covers 75% of the population of Prague, including the biggest residential centres in the east of the city. T-Mobile Czech Republic has switched on its 4G signal in and around the area of Prague castle; it now plans to boost coverage to 100% of Prague’s inhabitants by October 2014. Furthermore, over the course of the summer the cellco is looking to boost its LTE coverage in a number of smaller towns and cities. After a cooperation agreement with rival O2 Czech Republic, the carrier has also launched 4G services in Vysocina.

Nova Expands Icelandic LTE Footprint

Nova has announced that it has expanded the coverage of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network – which offers maximum theoretical download speeds of 100Mbps – to Vestmannaeyjum, an archipelago situated off the south coast of Iceland, and Isafjordur, the largest community within the Skutulsfjordur fjord. BTRC to Offer 450MHz Mobile Spectrum

A special committee headed by a commissioner of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will prepare a licensing guideline for 450MHz mobile frequency licenses by November, with the aim of allocating the 450MHz band to cellcos after the 700MHz band is auctioned next year. Alfa and Touch Sign up 2.35m Mobile Data Users

New figures have been released by Lebanon’s two state-owned mobile network operators Alfa and Touch, stating that Touch (managed by Zain Group) had 1.3 million subscriptions to its mobile data services at the end of June 2014, equivalent to around 62% of its total mobile subscribers, while Egyptian-managed Alfa had 1.05 million data service subscribers at the same date (around 55% of its total base). Omnitel Boosts 4G Coverage to 65%

Omnitel, Lithuania’s largest mobile operator by subscribers has expanded the coverage of its 4G LTE network to 65% of the population. The TeliaSonera-owned company launched commercial LTE mobile broadband services in the downtown areas of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai and Panevezys in April 2011. Omnitel recently completed the upgrade of its wireless network under an extensive modernization project that began in 2011. The project saw all existing 2G and 3G base stations upgraded and an additional 686 new 3G cell sites installed, boosting data coverage to 99.9% of the country. The entire 3.5G network is now capable of delivering maximum download speeds of 42Mbps.

T-Mobile US Claims Nationwide VoLTE Footprint; ‘Wideband’ LTE now Live in 17 Metro Areas

T-Mobile US, which notched up its 50 millionth subscriber in 2Q14, has announced that it has deployed voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) technology across its entire network footprint. Just two months after introducing VoLTE in Seattle, the cellco claims that the advanced technology now covers 233 million Americans in 325 metro areas, well ahead of its initial schedule. Further, the carrier has confirmed that its so-called ‘T-Mobile Wideband LTE’ network, which involves the use of at least 15MHz+15MHz of spectrum, is already live in 17 metro areas, with the cellco on target to reach 26 cities by year-end. EE Launches 4G in Cornwall

EE, the UK’s largest cellco by subscribers, has announced another coverage milestone in its LTE network rollout, revealing that it has made its 4G services available now in Cornwall. The company, having added another 21 locations to its network footprint, it named Saltash, which has a population of around 15,000, as the 250th ‘small town’ which it serves. Meanwhile, among the new locations covered, EE said it had sought to switch on its network in rural towns in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the South West, East Midlands, and North West of England. In total, EE now claims to offer its 4G service in 250 UK towns and cities across the UK, with more than 70% of the population within its network footprint, while its ‘double speed’ services are now available in a total of 20 cities.

Bharti Airtel Launches 4G in Nashik

Indian mobile telephony operator Bharti Airtel has launched its 4G services in Nashik. With this roll out, Nashik becomes the third city in Maharashtra to have the service, after Pune and Nagpur. Bharti Airtel already offers 4G services in 15 cities across India. Airtel customers can access 4G services on dongles and Wi-Fi CPEs, as well as subscribe to 4G postpaid plans. ANRCETI Awards Three Licences to Orange Moldova

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) of Moldova has awarded three operating licences in the 800MHz, 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands to domestic incumbent Orange Moldova. The three new technology-neutral authorizations are valid for 15 years, and will be effective from 6 November. T-Mobile’s Dutch Unit Sticks by 80% LTE Coverage Target

T-Mobile Netherlands has confirmed its target of achieving 80% population coverage with its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network by the end of this year. By that date T-Mobile NL intends to blanket the 20 biggest urban areas of the country with its 4G. By that date, the cellco will have boosted coverage to 70%-80% of users, up from around 50% currently, covering most of South Holland and Utrecht, as well as the southern part of North Holland and significant regions of North Brabant, Gelderland and Flevoland. With the long term aim being to reach 90% coverage by end-2015, T-Mobile has two million or so users who can currently access LTE, around 500,000 are actually using the service.

Argentina to Hold Spectrum Auction on 31 October

The Argentine government plans to conduct an auction of national 4G spectrum in the 700MHz and 1700MHz/2100MHz (AWS) frequency bands, as well as the remaining regional 3G spectrum in the 850MHz (SRMC) and 1900MHz (PCS) ranges, on 31 October. Telenor Revises EBITDA Margin Forecast for FY14 on the Back of Solid Second Quarter Results

Norwegian telecoms group Telenor has released its financial results for the three months ended 30 June 2014, reporting data growth and margin expansion for the period under review. In the second quarter of 2014 Telenor generated a total turnover of NOK26.803 billion (USD4.48 billion), representing organic year-on-year growth of 1.8% against the NOK25.747 billion in the same period a year earlier. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) before other income and expenses stood at NOK9.616 billion in 2Q14, representing an 8.6% increase against the corresponding quarter of 2013, while adjusted operating profit totalled NOK5.881 billion, up fromNOK5.466 billion. In operational terms, at the end of June 2014 Telenor Group reported a total mobile subscriber base of 175.591 million, up from 171.786 million three months earlier, and from 152.729 million at end-June 2013.

Telstra Aims for 2G Switch-off by End-2016

LTE Subs in Malaysia to Reach 7.6 mln in 2018- Study

LTE subscribers in Malaysia are forecasted to grow from 265,000 in 2013 to 7.6 million in 2018, according to a recent study by IDC. The study also said that mobile data users will grow at a CAGR of 11 percent during the period, from 57 percent out of total mobile subscribers in 2013 to 89 percent in 2018. The growth will be mainly driven by the increase of low-tier smart devices and affordability of data packages. IDC also predicts mobile data revenue in Malaysia is expected to surpass mobile voice in 2017.

Tigo Sets Date for 3G/4G Launch

Tigo Chad has successfully tested 3G and 4G mobile network technologies and now plans to begin offering the services commercially from September or October this year, Jeune Afrique writes. Apple’s Profits Jump on Strong iPhone Sales

LG Ships Record Number of Smartphones in Past Quarter

South Korea based LG says that it shipped a record high 14.5 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year, a 20 percent increase year over year with LTE products accounting for more than one third of all LG smartphones sold this year. As a result, sales increased 16 percent from the same period last year to KRW 3.62 trillion (USD3.51 billion), the highest since the first quarter of 2010. The mobile division’s operating profit of KRW 85.9 billion (USD 83.4 million) in the second quarter put an end to three consecutive quarters of losses.

Ericsson Sole LTE Provider for Claro Costa Rica

Swedish vender Ericsson has announced that it has been selected by Claro Costa Rica to be the sole supplier of the cellco’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G network. Under the deal, Ericsson will provide a complete LTEsolution including core, microwave transmission and radio access products, as well as consulting, integration, optimisation, field operations and maintenance services.

Ericsson Supplies LTE Network to Costa Rica

Ericsson says that it had been selected by Claro as the sole supplier of the operator’s LTE network in Costa Rica. Ericsson’s full LTE solution will include several core and radio access infrastructure products such as Mobility Management Entity, Home Subscriber Server, the RBS 6000 family, and microwave transmission using the LTE-proven MINI-LINK TN, as well as services and consulting for spectrum refarming, equipment roll-out, systems integration and optimization, in addition to support for field operations, maintenance and the back office.

Nokia Networks Upgrades Algerie Telecom’s Network to IP/MPLS

Algerie Telecom (AT), the country’s incumbent fixed line provider, has enlisted Nokia Networks to modernize its transport network with a highly flexible seamless Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) platform, which is expected to help deliver significantly improved broadband services to subscribers. The deployment will help the telco to save on operating costs and enable AT to offer flexible end-to-end transport services more efficiently and securely across network domains. Further, Nokia Networks will also provide network planning, optimisation and systems integration services.

Huawei Working on TV Broadcasts over LTE in the UK

Huawei says that it is collaborating with a number of companies to demonstrate TV broadcasts over LTE networks. The company said that it is working with the UK mobile network, EE, the UK broadcaster, the BBC and Qualcomm on the trials. The goal is to demonstrate the benefits that multicast 4G broadcast can offer compared with unicast steaming.

LG Launches Wearable Mobile Device for Young Children

LG Electronics has shown off a wearable device, the KizON which has been designed for pre-school and primary school children that offers parents a way to keep track of their young children’s whereabouts. Utilizing GPS and Wi-Fi, KizON provides real-time location information allowing parents to track their children’s whereabouts on a smartphone or tablet. With One Step Direct Call, parents can easily communicate with their children as well as providing them with information on the location of their children throughout the day. KizON will make its public debut in South Korea on July 10 before its introduction in North American and Europe in the third quarter of this year.

Ericsson and Qualcomm Achieve 63Mbps Downlink Over 3G Network

Turkcell, Ericsson and Qualcomm have demonstrated the world’s first live 3 Carrier High Speed Downlink Packet Access (3C HSDPA) on a commercial network. The test utilized a feature that will be included in Ericsson’s software release 15A and was conducted on a smartphone powered by a Qualcomm processor. Three-Carrier HSDPA is engineered to increase user speeds for downlink by up to 50 percent throughout the entire cell compared to single carrier, regardless of network load. The demo recorded 63 Mbps downlink.

Alcatel-Lucent deploys Claro’s Dominican 4G network

The Dominican Republic subsidiary of America Movil’s Claro wireless unit has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) equipment. The first phase of the new network is already operational, with coverage in major cities, and 4G services will eventually be made available to around 80% of the population. The deployment includes Alcatel-Lucent’s LTE Radio Access Network, 9471 Wireless Mobility Manager and 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM).

Huawei Shows Off LTE Technology at Kenyan Roadshow

Huawei says that it is preparing to deploy an LTE network in Kenya for a so far unnamed mobile network operator. Huawei showed off the technology at a road show, where it offered clients an opportunity to test the LTE based service ahead of the network rollout. The commercial launch is expected towards the end of this year. Although the company did not name the customer, it is a known supplier to Safaricom, who have also been itching to deploy a 4G network.

ZTE Helps China Telecom Complete Commercial IPv6 Test on 4G Network

ZTE says that it was a supplier to China Telecom during recent testing for IPv6 capabilities on its mobile network in Hunan province, a key milestone in China Telecom’s plans for future LTE deployment. The week-long test involved trial users and covered IPv4/IPv6 single- and dual-stack services, billing systems and backend IT infrastructure systems, demonstrating China Telecom’s 4G LTE network to be IPv6-ready. Becoming IPv6-ready is a key part of China Telecom’s plans for wider 4G LTE network deployments.
