Neotel Targets 3Q13 LTE Launch

Converged communications services provider Neotel has revealed that it expects to introduce 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technologies between July and September this year, with coverage initially centred on the Gauteng region, where the company is deploying 50 LTE-enabled base transceiver stations (BTS). According to engineeringnews.co.za, Neotel plans to gauge customer feedback before extending the service to other areas.

Managing director Sunil Joshi also noted that the firm has injected around ZAR500 million (USD50.9 million) in capital expenditure during the twelve months ended 31 March 2013, expanding its respective fibre-optic networks to cover 15,000km (national long distance) and 8,000km (metropolitan), linking the infrastructure to all five undersea cables that land in South Africa in the process.
