Nawras Starts Testing Upgraded 3G Network

Nawras is Oman based mobile network,After speaking to the first group of customers in this pilot area, Nawras recorded an 83% score from customers saying that they are very satisfied or satisfied with the network.

The company has chosen the densely populated Al Amerat Wilayat to test the new 3G+ services before its launch next September. “Al Amerat is a densely populated area and is geographically challenging;
It provides the perfect opportunity for us to showcase the significantly enhanced network and marks an exciting step forward for Nawras,” said CEO of Nawras, Ross Cormack. Nawras recently commissioned Huawei to boost the company’s Radio Access Network (RAN).
Drive tests undertaken in the same area show significant improvement in both coverage and quality. In addition, stationary tests in Al Amerat show great improvements in areas where previously speeds were low.

By the end of the year, work will have covered an extensive swathe of land stretching all the way from Bar Al Jissah to Musannah and Turbocharging will extend into the Batinah region at the beginning of 2013.

Nawras will have more than doubled the number of base stations when the upgrade programme is completed.
