
MTC reports sky-high data usage from first 1,000 LTE users
Mobile Telecommunications Corporation (MTC), a Namibian telecom states details of the early take-up of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband services, which it launched in parts of capital Windhoek in mid-May.
According to MT, it currently has 1,000 subscribers to its data-only, post-paid LTE service, which already accounts for 23% of the total data usage amongst its entire two million-plus mobile subscriber base.
MTC’s 4G customers are using an average of 1.6GB per day, a company spokesperson revealed. The statement also said that 40 LTE base stations had so far been rolled out in Windhoek, with a planned national rollout to encompass all main towns and some rural areas by the end of 2013.
