Movistar Begins LTE Testing

Spanish-backed full service provider Movistar Peru has begun trialing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology at its headquarters in Surquillo. The tests achieved peak downloads speeds of 154Mbps on a laptop and 80Mbps via smartphone, which Dennis Fernandez, the company’s VP of network operations, described as a tenfold increase compared to 3G data transmission speeds. The telco’s license stipulates an August 2014 deadline for the launch of LTE services.
