
MegaFon Expands LTE Coverage to 10th Russian Region
MegaFon says that it has become the first network to offer LTE coverage in Kostroma, located in North-West of Russia. This is the tenth region that the company has deployed LTE services in.
At the initial stage, 4G networks cover almost entire Kostroma region (Gorodische, Severniy, Rabochaya Sloboda, Trudovaya Sloboda, Baidarki, Pervomaiskiy, Oktyabrskiy, Malyshkovo, etc.). The effort on further improvement of data transmission quality will be continued both in the town and outside.
According to Alexey Semenov, Director North-West Branch, MegaFon OJSC “Kostroma is a town with rich history, cultural heritage which always attracts a lot of Russian citizens and foreign visitors. Kostroma has the official status of the historic town and the key tourist center on the Volga River. Today, it is an economically developed region attractive to investors and partners from the neighboring regions of Russia and from abroad. For quite a long time, there has been a great need for high-speed Internet access here and MegaFon is going to solve this issue in practice.”
Currently LTE are available in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Samara, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Sochi, Vladivostok, Ufa and Kazan. LTE coverage is expected to reach 30% of the Russian population by the end of this year.
