LG Uplus Introduces LTE-A Commercial Services

Following in the footsteps of South Korea’s largest wireless network operator by subscribers SK Telecom (SKT), the nation’s smallest operator LG Uplus has announced that it has inaugurated its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. According to Yonhap News Agency, at launch LTE-A services are on offer in the capital Seoul, as well as a number of other unnamed ‘major’ cities; looking ahead, coverage is expected to be expanded during the third quarter of 2013, though no specific targets were mentioned. It is understood that LG Uplus’ LTE-A service is based on carrier aggregation technology, which bundles two frequency bands to increase bandwidth.
