Instagram Launches Mobile Video Service

Facebook‘s mobile photo sharing subsidiary, Instagram has moved into the online video world with a service that will bear close resemblance to Twitter‘s own mobile video service.

Once upgraded, users of the Instagram app can now take up to fifteen seconds of video through their smartphone camera.

In keeping with the service’s origins, they’ve added thirteen filters built specifically for video to mock up fake effects on the footage. The Instagram service has also added a digital image stabilizer function to the effects.

The service has a strong resemblance to Twitter’s own video service, Vine, which it launched late last year, although that plays 6-second video loops instead of Instagram’s more conventional video clips.

Announcing the new service, Instagram’s CEO, Kevin Systrom said that the photo sharing service is now used by 130 million people each month.
