Indosat secures 900 MHz 3G licence

Indonesian mobile operator Indosat has secured a 3G licence for 900 MHz spectrum. The company said it plans to modernise its mobile network and increase broadband capabilities.

“We are ready to modernize mobile cellular network by improving capacity to provide broadband access,” Indosat Chief Executive Harry Sasongko said in a statement.

Barclays Capital analysts said “With this approval, we would expect Indosat to pick up the pace into 3G rollout and on pushing for higher wireless data services adoption and revenue generation–both auguring upside to 2013 estimates, if executed well.”

Barclays maintained its rating of equal weight for Indosat, below its competitors PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia and PT XL Axiata which have overweight ratings.
