Huawei to Develop LTE Hardware for Rural Brazil

China’s Huawei has signed an agreement with the Brazilian government to develop LTE based hardware that can expand coverage in rural areas by using the 450Mhz spectrum. In return the government is set to offer tax breaks to the Chinese company.

The agreement was signed in Brasilia by the Communications Minister, Paulo Bernardo, and by the president of Huawei in Brazil, Veni Shone. Minister Paulo Bernardo said that there was significant inequality between urban and rural areas in terms of Internet access and noted that the new technology would increase the percentage of homes linked to the Internet to 70 percent by the end of 2014.
