Optimus primes LTE network with Huawei antennas
According to Huawei, Portuguese mobile operator Optimus has selected Huawei to provide UMTS/Long Term Evolution (LTE) multi-frequency antennas for the cellco’s commercial 4G network.
The deployment of Huawei’s multi-band (1800MHz/2100MHz/2600MHz) antennas is anticipated to save on operation and maintenance costs. It will also improve the system throughput, capacity and overall network performance.
Optimus’s CEO Jose Pinto Correia commented “Huawei antennas showed great performance on existing network tests, which gave us more confidence in LTE network deployment,’ he further added: “Optimus is committed to enhancing user experience for mobile broadband, hence Huawei has been our strategic partner in mobile broadband development since 2005.”
Optimus launched its LTE network on a commercial basis in March 2012; the firm expects to achieve 80% population coverage by end-December 2012.
