According to Google, it is the first AI research center in Asia. It will have a small team that will properly run its existing office in Beijing.

Chinese policy makers will properly provide support for AI research and development in the country. The policy makers imposed strict rules on foreign firms in the past year.

Google’s app store and search engine aree banned in the Chinese market. Its email and cloud storage services are also disqualified in China.

While there are a lot of restrictions, Google has increasingly focused on exposing its AI products in China.

Google also held a Go tournament in eastern China with the help of local authorities this year. The event was highly publicized overseas but local media was muted.

According to the firm, the new Chinese AI research center will also link with a list of overseas centers operating in New York, Toronto, London and Zurich.
