Google in $1 Billion Talks to Buy WhatsApp
Google is reported to be in talks to buy the OTT messaging vendor, WhatsApp for a price in the region of US$1 billion. The messaging app claims a customer base of over 300 million users.
Google began talks with WhatsApp four or five weeks ago and the conversations have reached the point where the two sides are now talking about a price.
The app is believed to generate somewhere around $100 million in annual revenues. The company charges a flat fee for use after the first year.
Both Google and Facebook have been rumoured to have wanted to buy the company in the past, but this appears to be a more concrete development.
