
Globe offers LTE coverage for iPhone 5 postpaid users
Smart Communications Inc and Globe Telecom Inc separately announced that their iPhone 5 postpaid subscribers can enjoy LTE by updating to Apple’s latest software, the iOS6.1.
“Subscribers of Smart iPhone 5 postpaid plans with unlimited data can now get download speeds that are up to 20 times faster than the usual 3G connection on their mobile device,” Emmanuel C. Lorenzana, Smart executive vice president and wireless consumer division head said in a statement.
“You can enjoy this superior broadband service in a growing number of LTE zones in Metro Manila and in key cities in different parts of the country,” Lorenzana added.
Smart iPhone 5 subscribers can use Smart LTE for free until April 30 without the need to subscribe to a separate data package.LTE service is available in more than 770 establishments across 10 cities in Metro Manila, and in select areas in Boracay, Cebu, and Davao.
In a separate statement, Globe said its postpaid subscribers on iPhone 5 can enjoy mobile internet speeds of up to 42 Mbps in LTE-covered areas without having to upgrade their plans or pay extra charges.To enjoy LTE coverage on their iPhone 5, subscribers need to update to iOS 6.1 and use an LTE Nano-SIM.
“We are very excited to welcome this milestone for our postpaid subscribers as we provide them with ultra-fast data speeds and better call and text experience on their iPhone 5 devices,” said Peter Bithos, senior advisor for consumer business at Globe.
“Even with LTE, postpaid subscribers don’t need to incur additional fees or shift to a different or higher data plan just to enjoy the benefits of LTE. Globe is making LTE available to everyone on LTE-enabled devices regardless of their plan subscription,” he added.
