Gitex 2019: Etisalat showcases 5G plans

UAE telecom operator Etisalat showcased its advance technologies at Gitex Technology Week in Dubai on Sunday. The focus was mainly on 5G, AI, robotics, VR and AR across verticals.
At one of the biggest annual IT event, Etisalat presented solutions for the first time globally, such as 5G cloud gaming experiences and a 5G-connected ambulance.

The makers of the first flying care, Italdesign demonstrated their uniqu electric vehicle for people with a lightweight manual wheelchair. The ‘Wheem-I’ is making its presence for the first time globally.

The UAE telco also showcased advanced robotic technologies including ‘Furhat’, the world’s most advanced social robot, and humanoid robots Selma and Owen. The stand also included outdoor delivery robots, quadrupal robots and fusion-robots backpacks.

“Etisalat’s presence at GITEX this year is special as the 5G revolution is here bringing in the next wave of digital transformation and innovation. Visitors will be able to experience 5G and future technologies that is going to intensify and disrupt the way we live and work,” Dr Ahmed Bin Ali, group senior vice president, corporate communications, Etisalat said.

Etisalat said its subscriber base in the UAE reached 12.4 million subscribers.
“The launch of the first 5G network in the region is a major achievement as it opens up massive opportunities and adds value to both our customers and shareholders, it will help fast-track new innovative digital services,” Essa Mohamed Al Suwaidi, chairman of Etisalat Group, said.
