First Batch of MetroPCS Customers Migrated To T-Mobile LTE Network

Just six weeks after completing the merger of T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS, enlarged entity T-Mobile US has announced the migration of MetroPCS customers onto its HSPA+ and Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is ahead of schedule.

The company is making HSPA+ and LTE compatible devices available to MetroPCS customers as well as allowing them to bring their own unlocked compatible HSPA+ or LTE phone across to the new network. Approximately 60% of MetroPCS’ customers are thought to upgrade their phones every year, prompting T-Mobile to anticipate a ‘rapid pace’ for its migration plan; indeed, the company expects a full customer migration to be completed by the end of 2015. John Legere, president and chief executive officer of T-Mobile US, commented: ‘The moment that New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) bell rang on 1 May, we put it into high gear and hit the gas’.
