Emergency alert system incompatible with Telstra’s LTE
Australia’s Emergency Alert system does not yet work on Telstra’s LTE network.
The system, which was developed to alert residents and visitors of disasters in their area, was upgraded recently to allow mobile operators to pinpoint the location of mobile users and determine if they are affected by nearby emergencies.
However, Telstra has confirmed that the system is not yet compatible with its LTE network.
Telstra is currently the only operator to provide the location service with Optus and Vodafone to join next year.
The Australian Financial Review said that Telstra was developing a fix but the company could not provide a time frame.
