UK Based EE to Launch LTE at the End of October

UK based mobile network, EE has announced the launch date for its LTE service.

The company confirmed in a brief statement that the launch of the service, running over its existing 1800Mhz radio spectrum will go live on the 30th October.

Olaf Swantee, CEO, EE said: “This is a significant milestone for the United Kingdom, and for the people and businesses of our country who will now be able to enjoy the huge advantages of superfast 4G technology for the first time.”

EE’s LTE network will cover 16 cities by the end of this year and will be expanded to 98% of the population by 2014.

The launch date had been held back pending the resolution of a dispute between its rival networks and the telecoms regulator over the company’s plans to use the 1800 MHz spectrum for the service.

The rivals had been unhappy at the advantage that EE had in being allowed to launch LTE services before the formal 4G spectrum auction next year, but have been placated by earlier release dates for the radio spectrum following the auction.
