Ecuador Government to Begin 4G License Negotiations with Cellcos

Ecuador’s vice-president, Jorge Glas, has revealed that the government will begin negotiations with the country’s two private sector mobile network operators Movistar and Claro on the issuing of new frequencies, in a disclosure which was presumed to refer to licenses which will facilitate the launch of 4G LTE mobile broadband services. He said: ‘Now we will negotiate new spectrum, we are doing the assessment,’ while adding that ‘in this new contract [the government] will be much more demanding [compared to previous license conditions] in [stipulating standards of] the mobile service quality.’
