Digicel Secures LTE-Suitable Spectrum
Digicel Cayman Islands has announced that it has been awarded spectrum suitable for the provision of LTE services. In July 2013 the Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICTA) revealed that rival operator LIME had won a beauty contest for 2×24 MHz frequency blocks in the 700 MHz band, effectively leaving Digicel empty-handed. However, the regulator has revealed that it will now award Digicel a 20 MHz block, also in the 700 MHz band. The cellco says it will launch LTE across all three of the islands comprising the country before the end of the year.
